PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday summoned the federal secretary for Interior Affairs and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary to the next hearing in a petition seeking the recovery of four members of the Alkozai family from the posh Hayatabad locality of Peshawar.

A single bench of Justice Ejaz Anwar while expressing dissatisfaction over the police performance said that there should have been cases registered against the police officials concerned, including the capital city police officer and the station house officer.

Nadir Shah Advocate appeared for the petitioner Gulalai Alkozai, who is seeking the recovery of her four brothers Usman Khan Alkozai, Mohammad Nasir, Abdul Waris and Zahir Shah Alkozai.

Additional Advocate General Inam Yousafzai represented the provincial government. “Who is committing such crimes every day? There would be no occurrence of such crimes if the police performed duty devotedly,” the judge observed.

He said the vehicles, which were seen in the CCTV footage, belonged to the police, but the cops had expressed ignorance about the whereabouts of the missing persons. The court wondered as to who had picked up the four persons belonging to the Alkozai family, who went missing from Hayatabad six months ago if the police had not arrested them.

“The courts are the last hope for the affected families, and the courts are bound to dispense justice to them without any delay,” the judge remarked. Earlier, Nadir Shah Advocate told the bench that Usman Khan Alkozai, Mohammad Nasir, Abdul Waris and Zahir Shah Alkozai were picked up by armed men from Hayatabad six months ago.

He pleaded the four persons had been missing since then, adding the CCTV footage of the incident was also available. The counsel said that the court had directed the police to recover the missing persons within one week and produce them before the court. However, he said the police had failed to perform its duty.
