ISLAMABAD: Salman Ali Agha, the only spin bowling option Pakistan are expected to include in the playing line-up for the opening Test against South Africa, was confident on Sunday to live up to the expectations the way he did in Australia during the last Test series.
The all-rounder was talking to the media at the Pindi Stadium on the possibility of being the only notable spin option for the team during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh to be played at the Pindi Stadium.
“I am ready to perform my duty as a spinner in the two-match series like I did in Australia where the same role was offered to me. Again, if given a chance, I am ready to play my role as a spinner.”
Salman said that wherever he had been asked to bowl in the past, he only considered himself a bowler. “I never thought I was not a bowler. Whenever I was asked to bowl, especially in international cricket I consider myself a full-time bowler and take the challenge that way. Along the same lines when I go for batting, I feel I am a specialist batsman like any top-order player. I feel that I have to play my role as a specialist bowler and a specialist batsman. What exactly is my role in the Test team.”
Salman was excited to grab the opportunity against Bangladesh. To a question on nature of the surface expected for the two Tests in Pindi, Salman said that the pitch prepared for the first Test looked green.
“You never know about the true nature of the surface until you see it on the morning of the first Test. Since the management has decided to include pacers in the team, the wicket is expected to help seamers.” He said Pakistan’s balanced bowling will be capable of making an impact.
“Our bowling is quite balanced and capable of making an impact. We have good chances against the visiting team.” The all-rounder to a question on Bangladesh team combination, said the visitors have got a balanced team too.
“Bangladesh have a blend of youth and experience that is capable of delivering. Some experienced professionals who have been performing regularly at the highest levels are there in the squad.”
On the expected rainy weather or wet conditions, Salman said that no one has any control over weather. “We are professionals and whenever we get a chance to perform we need to make our best efforts to make a difference.” On the general behaviour of Pindi Stadium pitches, the all-rounder said it varied.
